Jacinta Mwania

My name is Jacinta Mwania aged 23 and I work with the government of Kenya in the Ministry of social services. My work entails working with the vulnerable and marginalized in the society and advocating for the right of women and children. Particularly am passionate in promoting peace in slum areas where I was personally born.
Being born in a slum and knowing all the challenges people living there face. I was attracted to work in promoting peace there. In the Kenyan slums you will find people from all tribes in Kenya. During political instabilities in my country, the people who are affected are the poor people living in slums. With the experience of the last three general elections, there has been always a lot of tension in the slums and the climax was during the 2007 general elections where many people were left homeless and many others lost their properties. Majority were people living in our informal settlements. Seeing all this I could not keep quiet and that is why I started my campaign for promoting peace. Many of those who suffered were innocent children and women.
I look forward to establish an association in Kenya which will bring all people together regardless of their tribe and political affiliation.
